Two Medford Residents Nabbed At Sobriety Checkpoints

Suffolk County Police screen nearly 1,000 drivers Friday night.

Two Medford residents were among 11 people arrested by Suffolk County Police at a Port Jefferson Station sobriety checkpoint Friday night into Saturday morning, as part of police stopping and screening nearly 1,000 drivers.

Police set up the checkpoint at Route 25A, part of a joint operation with New York State Police, Suffolk County Park Police and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police to crack down on drunken driving ahead of the busy Labor Day weekend.

Police charged nine people with driving while intoxicated: Robert Male, 33, of Medford, Stephen Walsh, 50, of South Setauket, Jessie Kemp, 26, of Coram, Alexandria Heller, 21, of Mastic, Nicholas Azzara, 18, of Shoreham, George Torres, 78, of Hillsboro BeachFlorida, Sabrina Brown, 35, of Mastic, Christina Harris, 29, of Coram, John Farrell, 23, of Port Jefferson.

Police also charged Joseph Jackson, 24, of Brentwood, with driving while ability impaired by alcohol, and Harry Themann, 55, of Medford, with driving while ability impaired by drugs.

The drivers were set to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
