Teens Nabbed For Drag Racing In Medford

Suffolk police say 18-year old driver hit speeds in excess of 100 MPH.

Two teenagers drag racing at speeds of up to 100 miles-per-hour in Medford were arrested Tuesday night, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Two vehicles driven by Jean Carlos Clas, 18 of Medford, and a 17-year-old teenager from Centereach stopped their cars at the intersection of Express Drive North and Horseblock Road in Medford, according to police. When the light turned green, both vehicles began racing until plain clothes police officers arrested the drivers near Route 112.

Clas and the teenager are charged with illegal speed contest and received summonses for speeding. The 17-year-old also received a summons for violating the conditions of his junior license.

Both vehicles were impounded pending proceedings to seize the cars under Suffolk County law.

The teenagers were released on bail and are scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on August 31.
