BID Discusses Blue Point Brewing Company and Four Corners

BID discussed an ongoing sewage problem with Blue Point Brewing Company, and decided not to create a formal opinion concerning Four Corners.

Patchogue's Business Improvement District Board met on Jan. 11 and discussed growing problems with both the and .

According to BID member and Village trustee Gerard Crean, bacteria is seeping into the village sewage system, possibly being released from certain enzymes used by Blue Point Brewing Company in their production. While they are aware of the problem, they had done nothing to correct it as of Jan. 11.

"Whatever it is they're actually discharging is sort of counteracting the good bacteria that we have that helps break down sewage," Crean said.

Crean said on Jan. 11 that due to Blue Point Brewing Company's lack of addressing the issue and overall non-compliance, the village is set to shut off the valve to their plant on Feb. 1 if the issue is not resolved. He said they know the issue exists, and that it's a problem.

"The first notice to them was back in November of 2009," he said.

Crean also said that while the village values their business, they can't jeopardize the safety of the plant for one business, and hopes that a resolution comes. A call placed to the Blue Point Brewery was not returned by press time.

The Four Corners project was also brought to the table for discussion. Members of BID discussed whether they should formulate a letter to send to the Village taking a stand for or against the project, and decided to abstain from a formal opinion.

However, while BID stayed unpartial, several of its members did voice an opinion. Board member Arthur Fuccillo, who joined the discussion via an intercom phone call, shared his opposition to the modified Four Corners project.

"They went back on their word," Fuccillo said. He said it was not fair to the community. He said he feels the developers are rushing into this, and there is a burden being put on the Village.

BID Secretary Pete Roe said that he was personally a little uncomfortable taking a stand.
