The Town of Brookhaven announced that its fourth “Operation Clean Sweep” will focus on improving quality of life in a section of Medford over the course of the next week.

The program was announced by Town Supervisor Mark Lesko and Town Councilman Tim Mazzei at a press conference at Medford Memorial Park on Friday morning.

Lesko said that the program so far has replaced 250 street signs and more than 30 street lights in three council districts.

“They do an analysis of any street lights that are out, any signs that need to be replaced or are missing, and then go about this and replace them,” Lesko said on how the Town runs the program.

The targeted area of Medford consists of Old Medford Avenue from Railroad Avenue to Southaven Avenue, and east toward Oregon Avenue.

“It’s based on Councilman Mazzei doing an assessment of his district, and its a high-impact neighborhood that needed some attention and hopefully in a week we will see the fruits of our labors,” Lesko said.

Mazzei said that the area was determined based on resident feedback.

“We had just received a number of complaints, quality of life type of complaints for this particular area, so we decided to target this portion of Medford,” Mazzei said.

Mazzei said the Town’s waste management department, law department in determining violations of codes and parks people will be working in the targeted area over the week.

The program will have Town employees fix streetlamps, pick up litter, install new street signs and other activities to clean up.

Residents who believe that a property is in violation of Town of Brookhaven codes and should be targeted can contact the town at 451-TOWN to file a complaint.
