The Carnegie Library building will begin its from its location on Lake Street to the location of the Wednesday into Thursday.
The library is being moved in order to make room for the plan in the the library currently stands. The building was supposed to be moved in July to a temporary location at the Patchogue Sewer Treatment plant, but it was announced at the July 23 Patchogue Village Board of Trustees meeting that it will instead be moved to a temporary location on the court property. The court property is also being looked at as the location that the building will eventually be placed.
The library, which as of Tuesday evening is already on wheels, is going to start being moved during the day Wednesday. However, the building will not be leaving Lake Street until around midnight Wednesday into Thursday.
There will be two gatherings Wednesday that will feature some movement of the building. A press event which will feature the library being moved to an extent will take place at 4 p.m. featuring Suffolk County Legislator Rob Calarco, County Executive Steve Bellone and Rob Loscalzo, Chief Operating Officer of Tritec.
The second, with the Friends of the Carnegie Library, is taking place at , 41 E. Main St. Patchogue, at 9 p.m. The coffeeshop is staying open until midnight, at which point attendees will walk over to Lake Street to watch the move.
According to a release from Calarco's office, the first bill to help move the building was passed in March, and a second bill that will allow the County to enter into an agreement with Patchogue Village will go before the Legislature on Aug. 7.
At this time a new use has not been chosen, but Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri said at the July 27 Village Board meeting that the and the Patchogue Historical Society have submitted proposals. Both organizations presented their ideas for the building at a in May.
Wolfe House & Building Movers, a Bernville, PA company, will be making the move while supervised by Tritec Real Estate Company.
