Great idea, Michael! I will be there and bring buddies!
Bunnie October 24, 2011 at 02:01 PM
I think this is ridiculous, to hinder the small businesses in Patchogue will harm the village not help it.. There are many who will not go up to main street once they hear this is going on because they will not want to be inconvenienced when trying to shop or eat. Why would we protest where the Small businesses are if this is about the corruption between major corporations and our politicians.
Larry Jaeger October 24, 2011 at 03:10 PM
I agree with Bunnie. These people should be demonstrating in Wasington not disrupting local communities and residents ho are trying to make a living to support their famlies. The sources of our problems originated in DC by their meddling in business, squandering our tax dollars and causing this poor economy. Demonstrate at the source of the problem.
Carol Reitz-Butler October 24, 2011 at 03:24 PM
The people who will show up here to protest ARE "local communities and residents ho are trying to make a living to support their famlies". In a perfect world, we would all be able to afford the time and $$$$ needed to fly down to DC to make our voices heard, but alas, this is not so. Local bank branches are indeed the source of the problem as the represent the principals of the umbrella organization. If you have a problem with your Ford, you speak to your local dealer, not Alan Mulally.
betsy smith October 24, 2011 at 03:24 PM
Bunny and Larry, I suggest you read the news. The Occupy Movement started in NYC to protest the banks and the Wall Street corporations that represent the capitalism without regulation that has decimated the middle class.
Fred Stewart October 24, 2011 at 03:33 PM
having a group of peacefully assembled citizens might be good for the village...wherever there's a group of people, they need commodities...food/water et cetera. I'm sure the small businesses will appreciate the extra business!
Carol Reitz-Butler October 24, 2011 at 03:38 PM
Exactly, Fred. I happen to be a Main Street merchant, and I'm glad to see this demonstration, not because I think I'll sell a few more cupcakes, but because the parsimony shown by the banking industry towards small businesses ( and oinsumers) in the forms of additional fees, regulations and withheld monies hurts us all.
John T October 24, 2011 at 03:45 PM
If you have some time go and volunteer at the V.A. Hospital. Many of you think that one day you will look back and say I was there, but the truth is you will be embarrassed for being such a loser.
CCOP October 24, 2011 at 09:18 PM
Why are they protesting the same Banks and Corporations that funded Obama's campaign? George Soros who was Obama's main Campaign financer is funding all of the orgqanizations that organized "Occupy Wall Street". What was MoveOn.org, Code Pink, A.N.S.W.E.R, ectc. doing in Egypt, Libya and other Muslim Countries with their "Day of Rage"? They worked hand in hand with the Muslim Brotherhood teaching their people to be anarchists and to bring down their Governments. "Occupy Wall Street", was spread Globally by the Socialist International Action Center. What is their real agenda?
Carol Reitz-Butler October 24, 2011 at 10:11 PM
John T, I'm old enough to have been in many, many rallies. As a result of those movements, we now have, in the US, equal rights for all races and all women, and an unpopular, unwinnable war was ended, I can look back without embarrassment and say "I was there", and consider myself a winner. CCOP, the agenda of OWS is much the same as the Tea Party's claim : A better life for the working classes of America.
Al 17 October 25, 2011 at 01:04 PM
Sorry folks but the OWS is clueless as to what they want or what they are doing. Betsy you said "The Occupy Movement started in NYC to protest the banks and the Wall Street corporations that represent the capitalism without regulation that has decimated the middle class." Who do you think lowered those regulations? Washington DC politicians did yet the OWS are mad at the banks for taking advantage of an environment that was created by the policiticians, the very people who are supposed to be safe guarding us from just this very thing. Yet there they are on Wall Street, not DC. How about that chant " You got bailed out, we got sold out" Again, who gave them our money? Washington DC did. I didn't agree to that, did you? But its the banks that are the bad guys right? Come on, the archiect of the bailout was none other than Obama's Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner. Before his nomination, Geithner was president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. You know? That giant private bank that pumped all the paper money and credit into the economy which is what caused this mess to begin with? Nice pick. BTW, Senator Obama voted in favor of that bailout. Why not go protest on his front lawn instead?
Carol Reitz-Butler October 25, 2011 at 03:58 PM
i think it's a sad testament to our school system that so many Americans can't read a calendar. The "bailout" of the banks ( ie, TARP) occured during the Bush Administration, almost 3 months before Obama took office. If you can remember back 3 years. the hysterical proclamation fed to the public was that "capitalism was on the brink of failure", The irony here is that the safeguards placed by Roosevelt to keep the banks in line were created when capitalism really was in danger, and scores of Americans were joining the communist party. Banks, supported by the GOP, had been fighting the Glass-Steagall (sp?) Act for 70 years, and finally got it brought down with the Financial Services Modernization Act, signed, sadly, by Clintion during his last months in office. It was the unbridled greed and shady bookkeeping of these bankers afterwards that led to the collapse in '08. I don't understand how people consistenly confuse TARP ( Bush) with the Economic Stimulus Plan (Obama). They are 2 very, very different agendas.

Although not in a official role, in March 2008, Geithner arranged the rescue and sale of Bear Stearns. In the same year, he played a supporting role to Henry Paulson, former CEO of Goldman Sachs, in the decision to bail out AIG just two days after deciding not to rescue Lehman Brothers from bankruptcy. Some Wall Street CEOs subsequently expressed the opinion that decisions in which Geithner participated, especially the failure to rescue Lehman, contributed to worsening the global financial crisis. Geithner and his predecessor, former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, both appeared before the Committee on January 27 2010. Geithner defended the bailout of AIG and the payments to the banks. But of course, we were talking about OWS and their lack of insight and direction not political parties....

This whole thing is a sham. It's being orchestrated by groups like ACORN and MoveOn.org to replace capitalism with a socialistic utopia like they have in Greece, France, Italy, and more! ....... If they are sincere then they would be protesting on Washington.........Fact 1) Obama/Biden received more money from Wall street in 2008 than McCain/Palin! ...... Fact 2) Obama put us trillions of dollars into debt to bail out the big banks on Wall Street....... Fact 3) Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae execs are about to receive 12.79 million dollars of bail out money for bonuses......now I ask.....Who is in the lap of Wall Street? ...... This whole thing was created to divide the classes and provoke violent protests! .... Don't think so? Thousands have been arrested, in NYC a seperate area has been set aside for women because they are being sexually assaulted by these reprobates! ..... Windows have been smashed, people's lives have been threatened and yet the democrats embrace this type of behavior! ........... Capitalism isn't the problem, it's those in government like Obama, Pelosi, & Reid who have allowed themselves to be manipulated and controlled by Wall Street! J.P. Morgan CHase, AIG, BP, Freddy and Fnny are just a few of the Wall Street Corps that hand picked Obama for huge political campaign donations.....now that is something worth protesting!!!!!!! 12.79 million more in Bonuses????????

I agree with you Bunnie, my family and I will be nowhere near main street when these people gather.
Billy BlueSky November 08, 2011 at 07:38 PM
With respect Carol you are assuming this protest is legitimate....it's in fact supported by ACORN and MoveOn.Org for the sole purpose of stirring up class warfare and dividing the country! These protesters are protesting many different things including anti-capitalism, higher taxes for those who create jobs, as well as the inpropriety of the banking institutions...........I do not like the way the banks are conducting their business but they have been aided by the politicians.....two examples are Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae, they were both huge contributors to the Democrats, is it no wonder they have been bailed out, continue to be bailed out, and their top ten executives are set to receive $12.79 million dollars in bonuses! To me that is disgusting, has nothing to do with down town Patchogue but here is the problem,,,,Obama's friends who have created this movement and support it financially do not wish to embarrass the president.....have you noticed Carol that once Obama became president the anti-war protesters all but vanished from Washington? Why was that? Becasue it's ok for kids to die under a democrat but not a republican? Or maybe because the people who created those demonstrations and funded them did not want to embarrass a liberal president in the same way they won't embarrass Obama now with "Occupation" ......Under this banner windows have been smashed, thousands arrested, women being sexually assaulted in NYC...No! I do not want them in my community!
Bill Marrinelli November 09, 2011 at 02:30 PM
1) The agenda of the OWS people is to divide the country and convince the american public that even though the proof shows otherwise, that the republicans are in bed with Wall Street and the big greedy corporations. Obama can't run for re-election on his record and accomplishments so instead the strategy is to pit Hero Obama against the evil republicans and the banking and business institutions they are supposedly in bed with....this is a lie and will not help the country or amewrican families. 2) Do not compare the Tea Party with the OWS people. The Tea Party people did not smash windows, provoke and attack police, sexually assault women like they are doing in NYC (it's so bad that they had to set up a seperate area for the women), the Tea Party people were not deficating in the streets, getting arrested, and they were not preaching anarchy. 3) The sixties are over and thank God! The days of holding hands and singing Kumbaya are over. The voices that spoke out in the sixties have given us a society where no one has any respect for anyone else, a society defined by the "Me" generation........Kennedy exclaimed "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country".....well that doesn't fly in today's world of entitlements where too many people want to be supported by the government and insist that the government have greater say in our lives. ....
Bill Marrinelli November 13, 2011 at 01:59 PM
Obama approved a no-bid 443 million dollar contract to a company to fight Small Pox......problem 1) Small Pox was eradicated in 1979 ..... 2) The is was a ni bid contract! ..... 3) The owner of the compant was a major donor to Obama and the democrats ........ 4) The tax payer gets stuck with the bill! ............. Protest that Occupy People.... Obama is PART OF THE PROBLEM? You want him re-elected or are you not sincere in your beliefs?
