Former State Sen. Trunzo Dies

Passing announced by current State Sen. Lee Zeldin.

Former State Sen. Caesar Trunzo has died, according to a statement released by State Sen. Lee Zeldin.

“It is with deep sadness, that we pause to mourn, honor and remember the life of … Sen. Trunzo,” Zeldin said in a press release. “He was a man who dedicated his life to public service and, in so doing, profoundly impacted the lives of so many New Yorkers.”

Trunzo served in the state senate for 36 years before losing his 3rd senate district seat to Brian Foley in 2008. Zeldin defeated Foley two years later.

“Sen. Trunzo will always be missed and always be remembered for all the great work he performed on behalf of his constituents and our state,” Zeldin said.

Trunzo, a Republican, was born in Brooklyn in 1926 and graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn and later graduated from Heffley & Brown Business College. He also served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946. Prior to his election to the state senate, Trunzo served as an Islip Town Councilman from 1965 to 1973.
