House Speaker Boehner Coming to Smithtown for Altschuler Fundraiser

Fundraising battle continues as rematch in New York's First Congressional District heats up.

Speaker of the House John Boehner will be coming to St. James to help raise money for Randy Altschuler as money continues to pour into the rematch between the Republican challenger and incumbent Democrat Tim Bishop.

According to Newsday, Boehner, R-Ohio, will be attending a fundraiser at the private home of Stephen and Carolyn Louro in Nissequogue, not far from Altschuler's St. James residence.

As the two candidates started debating last week, ads have been hitting the airwaves and fliers from several different organizations — namely, state committees and super PACs — started arriving in potential voters' mailboxes.

, topping Altschuler by fewer than 600 votes after more than 180,000 votes were cast.

Boehner will visit Suffolk Oct. 10, reportedly making a couple of other fundraising stops in New York while he's in the area. Newsday reports that tickets at the private party start at $250, with VIP photo ops going for $1,000 and a VIP roundtable for $5,000.

Louro, named one of Long Island Business News' top 40 under 40 in 2001, founded Professional Group Plans in the early 1990s and according to tax records, pays one of the highest property tax bills in Smithtown — more than $80,000 last year.

Louro's company is headquartered in the Hauppauge Industrial Park, with additional locations in New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut. PGP employs more than 100 people, and specializes in offering group health insurance to other companies.

Why are libs so afraid to have people produce identification to vote? Be it a benefit card with photo or license or ss#! Why would a liberal be opposed to such a common sense notion? Because it may truly reveal how corrupt the left is with bussing people to the polls to vote under different names such as acorn did last election. If you don't contribute to this country in some shape or fashion why should you contribute to the election process? Ohhh I know the answer, cause The left will accuse you of being a demonic extremist republican with racial bias motives this way she and her party will get there way. Hopefully those days of crying wolf will come to an end and people will judge based on merit, values, work ethic, and simple morals. And lastly Mary Beth and John gruber, I don't listen to rush Limbaugh but I do listen to my neighbors and co workers and you are in the minority as far as your ideas about where this country is headed under this administration so call me ignorant but please debate facts and not reiteration of msnbc banter.

I'm not a "lib" But I have been voting for 40 years and not once have I had to show ID. I'll be dipped in dog poo if I will start now because you neanderthals think that will send the undocumented persons back home. Idiots.

Allege bra, Like all things in life, things change. If you refuse to show id to vote don't vote. Nothing to do with Neanderthal thinking. When you open an account at the bank do you need show Id? When you go into a bar and order beer when you were younger did you show id? When you go to a library and take out a book did you show id? So why not produce id for such a significant matter as voting for our next president whom will represent us to the world? Why? Because we all know the answer? Many people like I said who do not contribute to the country will not be able to vote under someone else's name. Fact!
