LA Fitness Planned for Patchogue

The large fitness center coming early 2011 has been approved by the Town Board for Gateway Plaza.

A 45,000-square-foot LA Fitness health club will be built in Patchogue's Gateway Plaza strip mall behind the Bob's Store and Home Goods, according to Max Brittain, vice president of Gateway owner Pergamint Properties. The health club is expected to be completed by early 2011.

The center also includes Best Buy, Marshalls and King Kullen.

At Tuesday night's Town Hall Meeting, Councilman Dan Panico, R-6th District, also confirmed that plans for the supersize fitness complex were approved last year.

Brittain said that the Patchogue LA Fitness will be somewhat smaller than the location near the Smith Haven Mall, but would be one of the largest health facilities in the area when completed.

"We signed the lease on the property over two years ago and LA Fitness has spent the last two years developing a set of plans, hired engineers, obviously architects and they submited all of these plans to the planning board for site plan approval," Brittain said.

LA Fitness corporate headquarters could not be reached for immediate comment.

This would be the fourth major gym to enter Patchogue, including the currently operating Ultimate Fitness Patchogue and Finest Fitness, and the new YMCA due this Fall.
