Nearby: Coastal Area Mosquito Spraying Set For Wednesday
Spraying will take place in select nearby areas including Sayville, West Sayville.
The Suffolk County Department of Public Works on Wednesday is scheduled to spray several coastal areas in Islip by helicopter in an effort to control mosquito larvae.
According to county officials, the spraying will take place from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and include a low altitude large droplet application of Altosid liquid concentrate.
Areas that will be treated include West Sayville Golf Course, Robert Moses Coast Guard Station, Clam Pond, Captree Island East, Gardiner Park, Admiralty/Isbrandsten, Scully, Seatuck NWR, Islip Preserve, Quintuck Creek, Heckscher State Park, Timber Point, Idle Hour, Pepperidge Hall, Ludlows Creek, West Oak Recreation and Namkee Creek.
Officials with the county’s Department of Health Services said the products used are registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and are applied in accordance with the required state and federal permits.

No precautions are recommended to prepare for this spraying, as the helicopter will be flying at a very low level over marsh areas and taking other precautions to control drift into inhabited areas. Human exposure from this operation is unlikely and the products involved have no significant human toxicity, officials said.
