Pat-Med Library Budget, Trustee Vote Tuesday

Budget is a 1.68 percent tax increase.

The Patchogue-Medford Library will be holding their budget vote and trustee election from 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the library's April 2013 newsletter, their proposed budget reflects a 1.68 percent tax increase with a .60 percent increase in operational costs from the previous year.

"This year we are confronted with multiple challenges including increases in our NYS Retirement costs and continued decreases in revenues due to low interest rates," stated the library's Board of Trustees in a letter in the newsletter.

The letter also states that 639,117 items have been checked out in the past year, over 635,000 people have used the library and 36,982 attended library programs. Also noted were 129,076 patrons have used a library computer, 1 million hits on their website and in 2012 83,051 eBooks have been downloaded.

The sole candidate listed in the newsletter is Eleanor Ryder, and she is running unopposed.

The library will also be waiving fines for overdue items all day Tuesday.
