Patchogue Village Declares Snow Emergency

Residents advised to remove vehicles from streets by 6 p.m. Thursday, ahead of winter storm Hercules.

Patchogue Village has declared a state of emergency due to the upcoming winter storm Hercules, which is predicted to drop nearly a foot of snow on the region.

Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri told Patch that it is important for residents to get their cars off the road by 6 p.m. Thursday, so plows can safely clear streets. Traditionally, village residents are required to remove all vehicles from streets after two inches of snow or more have accumulated, and vehicles in violation may be towed. Parking is also traditionally available in all municipal lots during a snow emergency.

Village trustee Joseph Keyes told Patch that the Department of Public Works has pre-treated roads to keep the first few inches more manageable, and salt is ready for the potential snow. Brining of the streets will also be taking place.

Pontieri said that if there are any emergency issues, residents should call 631-475-1225 to reach public safety and the Patchogue Fire Department. Both Pontieri and Keyes recommend for residents to get off the roads as early as possible.
