why does the patch always inform us of events after the fact!!!!!!
Edward Smith September 15, 2012 at 01:00 PM
Why is there no description of the Legislation other than to say it offers some tax breaks to some small businesses? Is it targeted for cupcake businesses only?
Karen Ferb September 15, 2012 at 02:54 PM
Senator Gillibrand's impending visit was announced by Patch on August 13. The text of the bill can be read at http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/s3442/text.

Hey, Michael, how about some content here. The fact she came is unimportant, her message is. In some detail. If she brought no detail, her visit was a waste of time.

OMG. Thank you, Mrs. Ferb, for that link. This legislation shows why many things are broken inn this country. This bill is insanely controlling and over bearing. Perhaps it is improving the original bill, but it doesn't touch on core small business problems. A useful bill would have lowered taxes and gave incentives for hiring. Everyone should read it. !

Another meeting not really well made public untill after the fact. Did Pontieri bring it up at any of the Village Trustee Meetings????Maybe Mrs.Ferb can answer that.... Tax breaks for a Cup cake place and Tax Breaks for Local Breweries Just ask State Senator Lee Zeldin...... But what about the Private Homeowner struggling with increasing Taxes....All of these Politicians have lost sight that these types of Buisnesses are dealing in a luxury item .......... and by cutting the taxes for these types of buisnesses the only one's who come out are the owners of these buisnesses. The tax bill just shifts to the struggling homeowner. This is poor judgement on the part of these Politicians, they should hang there heads in the HALL OF SHAME Even though it is a Bill S 3442 "SUCCESS ACT OF 2012" introduced before Congress on a Fedreral Level.

Its amazing how politicians seek Kudos for more arcane, burdensome and costly regulations. Here's an idea! Get out of my way and let me run my business!
Carol Reitz-Butler September 15, 2012 at 09:37 PM
OK, you got me. My Main Street cupcake store has so much power I was able to sway the entire US Senate, both GOP and Dems, and got them to agree on a bipartisan bill that will help only me and my brewery buds. When the plutonium I bought on eBay arrives in the mail I will rule the world ! MWA-ha-ha

....and for the record: The timing and publicity of Senator Gillibrand's visit was entirely in the hands of her staff. Her aide contacted me for the first time on Thursday afternoon. She asked if I was willing to allow my store to be used the following day for this announcement, and sent me a copy of the bill to be sure I understood and agreed with it. She also made it clear that I was not to contact anyone, that was the job of her staff. There is a protocol that is followed for these types of visits, and security, especially following the tragic Giffords incident, is very tight.

Casey, we had an announcement up on Thursday in our top front page spot which was when we found out about it. It was also at the top of our Friday morning email newsletter, and on the Patchogue Patch Facebook. However, I'm sorry that you missed it. The announcement was at this link: http://patchogue.patch.com/articles/sen-gillibrand-to-announce-legislation-at-queen-city-cupcakes-friday

Great response, now I HAVE to visit your store! :) LOVE a sense of humour.

Excellent point --about Gabby Giffords. I notice the naysayers have absolutely no comprehension of just what kind of security a Senatorial visit entails-- especially in today's atmosphere. As a fan of Senator Gillibrand and her strong support of getting medical care for our returning veterans, she's long since had my vote. Congratulations on having your store be the focal point of this visit. Well-deserved great publicity--and nice photos!

Congratulations, Carol, for contributing not only a vibrant little business to the renaissance in Patchogue, but for providing the kind of integrity our village needs for Senators like Gillibrand to feel safe and respected enough to visit. I am very proud to know you!!!

Carol, not funny, you lost a potential customer. A Pack of Hacks....this is the best they can do for job creation????????? Bishop a bribe taking hack who bankrupted SouthHampton as finance chief and GILLY an attorney who defended tobacco with the defense that they never ever knew cigs were bad. A professional liar. Like the bloated fellow in the background. Why do pols gain so much weight after they are elected to office?? : )
Carol Reitz-Butler October 06, 2012 at 01:00 PM
Snoop....a potential customer? My store has been open for over a year and you haven't been in yet? What were you waiting for? There are many business owners in town who have poltical views different from mine. I wouldn't dream of not using their services based on that. Our town needs all the customer support it can get, and that's something on which we can all agree.

Carol, I love cupcakes!! I don't find references to terrorist activity funny at all. What has our country come to when an upstate US Senator(cough, cough... cigs are good for you Gilly), a congressman(Pelosi puppet), come to Patchogue to brag about tax breaks for a cupcake shop. Enjoy my taxes and the publically financed publicity. PS Send Gillly a cigarette flavoured cupcake loaded with nicotine, after all she says it is not addicting or bad for you.....professional liar. On principal, I would never let a piece of garbage who represented big tabacco clients that have addicted and killed countless people into my Village. But looking at the fat bellies on the pols... Dig in!! LOL
Carol Reitz-Butler October 07, 2012 at 01:55 PM
Snoop, perhaps you need to look up the word "bipartisan"? Standing next to the Senator that day was Dean Murray, who also happens to be a personal friend of mine. Somehow we are able to have different opinions without threatening one another's livlihoods. ....and...FYI, when I get my plutonium I have no intention of engaging in "terrorist activitiy". I plan on seceding from the US and forming my own counrty. Perhaps, given your passion for politics and our shared loathing of smoking, you would like a prominent position in the government of the new nation of Carolsperfectworldia? I will appoint you Minister of Not Making Snarky Comments About People's Physical Appearance....oh, wait! ..uh, maybe not.
