The ship, which is scheduled to begin heading to its home port in Hawaii, will house 290 crew members who ran onto the ship for duty shortly after it was officially commissioned.
Lt. Michael Murphy, of Patchogue, was a part of a four-member SEAL team, and was shot on June 29, 2005 while on duty. Murphy has been posthumously honored with the ship, numerous awards, a film and even a workout named after him.
