Plaza Theatre Coming Down on Aug. 30

Long-vacant theatre will be demolished at 10 a.m.

The Plaza Theatre in East Patchogue is coming down on Aug. 30 at 10 a.m., according to a Town of Brookhaven official.

As , the theatre, which has been since the 1980s, has remained vacant on East Main Street since its closing. Brookhaven Town took of the theatre in March from its former owner, East Main Realty Corp, through an order of condemnation after the owner rejected a $1.2 million offer from the Town.

The theatre will be by of Setauket at a cost not to exceed $23,869.

Town officials have previously said that they hope to redevelop the half acre of property as part of other projects in the East Main Street corridor.
