Pontieri Seen As Possible Lesko Replacement

Suffolk County's top Democrat names Patchogue mayor as one of several potential candidates to run for Brookhaven Town Supervisor in November.

Paul Pontieri for Brookhaven Town Supervisor?

While Patchogue’s mayor is currently downplaying any interest in running for the position, Richard Schaffer, chairman of the Suffolk County Democratic Party, mentioned Pontieri as a possible candidate to run on the party’s line for the position that will be vacated by current supervisor Mark Lesko.

“I haven’t heard from Rich Schaffer (and) at this point there is no interest but if there is a conversation to be had we’ll talk,” Pontieri told Patch Wednesday afternoon.

In March, the mayor and his slate of trustee candidates easily won in a bruising campaign that captured the attention of many in Patchogue Village.

Lesko, a Democrat who was re-elected this past November, on Wednesday announced his effective Sept. 14.

"Mark Lesko is a bigger loss to the town and will be really difficult to replace,” said Pontieri. “He’s one of the few political figures that is not political. It’s a tremendous loss."

Pontieri? Seriously? Good Lord.
Patchogue's loss of Mayor Pontieri, should he decide to run for this position would be of GREAT BENEFIT and gain for the residents of the Town of Brookhaven. This Gem of a Mayor that we have here in The Village of Patchogue would be greatly missed. Mark Lesko and Mayor Pontieri both would leave legacies that are outstanding and both are extremely accomplished political figures.

Don't take our mayor. He has done a lot of good for Patchogue. We can not afford to lose him.

Pontieri has a choice. But didn't he resign from the TOB because the salary brought him over the limit to collect on his teacher's pension? How can he take Lesko's 110k+ salary and still collect his boces pension? At least he will be double dipping and not tripple dipping the system like he was last year.

There is no one we'd rather see stay in Patchogue than Pontieri...ToB has enough problems without this man on our payroll again

I guess if you aren’t a Pontieri rump kisser your posts get deleted? All I said was “the rat is jumping from a sinking ship.”

He’d fit right in at Crookhaven where they are all feeding from the troughs while our taxes go up!
Jim James August 17, 2012 at 03:30 PM
My taxes are ridiculous! I pay more then people in Smithtown or other wealthy places on long island.

he left ToB because he couldn't dedicate the time that was needed to both jobs (unfortunately there are only 24 hours a day and he couldn't do it all). and I would like to see any of you pour as much into bettering your community as he pours into the village. shame on you all for being nasty; like high school kids lonely and bored gossiping about the person you wished you were.

Get Real Pontieri as Supervisor????????? To date it appears he thinks that all of the serious Accusations against him like 150 G loan to Art space, selling his vehicle to Patchogue,330+ visits to The Village Gasoline Pump,+ more will just disappear. As they say it ain't over till it's over.
