Railroad Avenue Now One-Way Between Main, South

Crosswalk will also be installed across Railroad Avenue.

Motorists take note: Railroad Avenue is now a one-way street between Main Street and South Street in Patchogue Village.

The Patchogue Village Board approved a resolution last month making it one-way in the southbound direction, but Hurricane Sandy delayed the installation of signage on the roadway. Those signs are now going up, Village Trustee Joseph Keyes told Patch Tuesday.

Suffolk Police had asked the Village to consider making the road one-way. Keyes said the move is "an attempt to ease the traffic congestion caused by the overwhelming success of The Emporium."

A pedestrian crosswalk will also be installed in the near future from the east side to the west side of Railroad to "safely accommodate" those using the courthouse parking lot, Keyes said.

Between this and the metered parking, I worry about places like Quench and Queens City Cupcakes which are an asset to the Village. How inconvenient does the Village want shopping Main Street to be? Not a problem for the restaurants as much, but the few retail shops that are here struggle to survive on a daily basis.

This is Nuts!!! First the village bans valet in the village, then changes the direction of one road to benefit 1 business! Whats Next??

Wow, a lot of bending over backwards for one biz.

How about including a map of the area in question?

I am overjoyed to see businesses coming to Patchoge Village; but ask why are these issues not taken into consideration BEFORE permits are given to prospective buyers. YES, we need to grow the Village, but at what cost to the existing businesses and residents?

I wonder what the mayor got for bowing down to the emporium yet again.

Asking folks to think before they act is like asking a cow to jump over the moon ;-)

Lot of issues are wrapped up in that one little one way sign on Rail Road Ave. FUR: the one way sign was posted to accomodate a traffic safety recommendation made to the village by the Police. I think once that happened the village had to comply or face liability concerns. Judy: it's zoning that is at the heart of the problems relating to the Emporium. Under the village's very generous zoning law the Emporium had no legal requirement to show a parking plan and it did not. It did present plans otherwise for example: its bowling alley, large outdoor space and related other matters and reached an approval with the Planning Board with respect to those issues. JM: the calendar of the village court is now crowded with complaints about public urination, public sex and intoxification in the streets. Busy is booming so much so that the village has just recenlty hired two more court officers to handle the crowds and a new full time court clerk. No worry about the cost apparently since now cash from fines is avaiable to pay for all of this. One thing that is subject to the control of the village is club capacity. The club did agree to a limit of less than 1200 persons. I noticed that the Emporium advertised on facebook that it expected 2000 persons for this last Wednesday. So even more cars and people than allowed if true. That can be stopped through enforcement of the lmits for all clubs across the board. These limits should be enforced: they are public safety protections.

Now that Railroad is one way ( I can only go one way at a time) are they going to remove that traffic light on Main and Railroad ave ? they have two right next to each other, Havens Ave and railroad Ave
John Bogack November 23, 2012 at 06:55 PM
Wayne light change coming. Phase 2 of the railroad avenue traffic flow rework is a change in the lights. I do attend Board meetings as a member of the public. I recall that the Mayor has said that the lights at Havens and Railroad are going to be coordinated so that they are in synch. He said that he expected that traffic flow down main street was going to speed up as a result so I guess my answer to your question is the light is staying but both lights will be working together in real time which should be an improvement.

Sounds dumb to me, why do they need two traffic lights when there will be no cars coming out of Railroad ave onto main St.. would use less electric also..

Take back my last comment, Hoshi gets to valet in the temporary lot behind the building, can anybody park in that lot? plus putting an A frame sign on the street, is that allowed???

So....Public peeing + patronage + partiality + parking problems + pontieri politics = Progress?

I'm not accusing anyone of "faking it". http://www.coachoutletonlinegg.com My point is that our Pompeii - like most classical http://www.coachoutletonlineaol.net sites, in fact - is the product of collaboration between http://www.coachfactoryoutletwy.com modern rebuilders and conservators, and the original Roman builders http://www.coachoutletstorefc.com themselves, with the lion's share of the work on our side. And it's no less impressive or moving http://www.coachoutletaol.org for that - as the body casts help to show. One of http://www.coachfactoryonlineest.net the video clips played in the exhibition at the Getty Museum comes http://www.coachfactoryoutletpst.com from Roberto Rossellini's film, Voyage in Italy, in which the lead couple, http://www.coachfactoryoutlettx.com played by Ingrid Bergman and George Sanders, tour the country as their marriage http://www.coachfactoryonlinefc.org disintegrates. On their visit to Pompeii they watch the plaster being http://www.coachoutletwy.com poured into a cavity left by two of the victims. http://www.coachoutletonlineybw.com In the movie's most haunting scene, these victims emerge as a couple.
