Village Board Tightens Parking Restrictions

Spaces become resident-only on streets by the bay after residents complained of overcrowding.

New parking restrictions passed in Patchogue limit non-residents from parking on several village roads.

Parking on Smith Street, a strech of South Ocean Avenue to the corner of Maiden Lane, as well as Maiden Lane itself, was made resident-only. Prior to the change, non-residents were allowed to park on Maiden Lane on Monday and Tuesday.

Residents who want to park on the street must pick up stickers at the Village Clerk's office.

The new restrictions come in response to the overcrowding of parking in the area near Lombardi's On The Bay and the Patchogue Beach Club during the summer months.

Some businesses have complained about parking restrictions. For example, shopowners on Waverly Avenue fought and forced a change to the new restrictions that banned parking on the street until 9:30 a.m.  The board then changed the hours to allow parking from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

A valet parking lot is planned at 16 Smith Street to provide extra parking.
