Village Preps For New Parking Regulations

Signs and large fines for those who park in restricted section of South Ocean Avenue.

New parking regulations will mean hefty fines for revelers at Lombardi's On The Bay who park on South Ocean Avenue.

Patchogue Village Trustees are about to impose a ban on parking on the east side of South Ocean Avenue between Leo and Smith Streets and require permit parking for the west side of the road.

Parking Commissioner and Village Trustee Jack Krieger said that the village will spend the next week putting up signs, before enforcing the new code.

Separately, Lombardi's is exploring the option of purchasing nearby residential properties and converting them into parking lots, which Krieger calls "a viable option" for the business.

"By limiting parking down there we're just really moving cars around," Krieger said.  "We're not really solving the problem of the parking, we're just pushing them away further away from Lombardi's."

At least one person said the problem goes beyond Lombardi's or the new regulations.

"I don't know how they had a big business here without the proper parking space," said Sophia Malisrewicz, a resident.
