Breakfast with the Blue Ridge Homeowners Association

As the Legislator for Suffolk County’s 7th Legislative District, I often get invited to events hosted by civic organizations, and those events are among my favorite to attend. A group of people volunteering their time to engage themselves in order to better their community is downright inspirational, and more importantly – an effective way to acheive positive change.

I recently spent a morning having breakfast with just such a group right here in Medford: the Blue Ridge Condomimums Homeowners Association.  Over the last several years, the Blue Ridge HOA has been a very effective advocate for their community. Whether the issue be their beloved swimming pool and recreation complex, the resurfacing of Granny Road, or the safety of their neighborhood streets – the Homeowners Association has worked diligently to accomplish goals that matter to Blue Ridge residents.

The breakfast was organized by the HOA’s Political Action Committee. The PAC is headed up by Joan Murrin and works closely with local governments to tackle any issues that arise in the Blue Ridge community. Joined by fellow elected officials Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Connie Kepert, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine, Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro, Brookhaven Town Tax Receiver Lou Marcoccia as well as representatives for Congressman Tim Bishop and Assemblyman Ed Hennessey, I was invited to give an overview of what’s going on in Suffolk County and I also spent some time fielding questions and concerns from the members of the Homeowners Association. It was a productive and enjoyable morning, and I look forward to many more like it– with the Blue Ridge Homeowners Association and the many other civic groups like them throughout the 7th Legislative District.
