"Artists on the Lane," annual event showcasing Long Island artists

A lovely day spent on Bellport Lane in Bellport on the Fourth of July.

It was a lovely day in Bellport, Wednesday, July 4th.  The celebration of our country’s Independence is always a reminder of how lucky we are to have freedom and rights in the United States of America.  The South Bay Art Association (SBAA) sponsored a wonderful show that day, along Bellport Lane.  Artists displayed their artwork of all medias, including wooden sculptures, oil paintings, watercolors and photographs.

Every year, I look forward to strolling down the Lane with my family, talking to artists and “bumping into”  friends and neighbors that I don’t often see.  This year was no exception.  Lots to talk about and lots of catching up to do.

Artists from all over Long Island display their works of art, each having  unique strengths in their media and drawing inspiration from their life experiences and inspiring others to relish in the beauty of art.  With the perfect weather that day and the enthusiasm in the air, it was a wonderful adventure.

SBAA meets once a month, on a Wednesday at the Bellport Community Center in Bellport.  The group also holds Plein Aire excursions on Tuesday mornings in the Summer, and portrait sketch sessions  in the winter months.

If you are interested in participating in next year’s show, or would like more information about SBAA, visit the following web-sites:  www.southbayart.org and southbayart.blogspot.com.  You may also e-mail your questions to southbayart@gmail.com.

Enjoy the photographs my daughter Erin, took that day.

Your barking dog complaint in North Patchogue is handled by Public Safety, Town of Broohaven. CallRead More them at 451-6161 and they will take action. The first time the owners will be warned, the next time they will receive a summons.

Don't know what the Town ordnance is, but if you live within the Village of Patchogue, I believeRead More there is a "15 minute rule" in the code. Basically, if the dog is barking for more than 15 continuous minutes, it's a violation subject to a fine. Call public safety at 475-1225. Keep in mind it's probably not their first priority (unless the dog has a bad attitude, and is carrying a weapon), but they will be responsive, eventually.
