Locantore, Burdo Honored as PMYCS Man, Woman of the Year

Award ceremony was held at the Mediterranean Manor in Patchogue.

A ceremony was recently held at Patchogue's  to honor Michael J. Locantore and Rosemary Burdo as the 2011 Patchogue-Medford Youth and Community Services (PMYCS) man and woman of the year.

Executive Director of PMYCS Shawn Hirst noted that choosing this year's recipients was easy.

"Michael [Locantore] is one of those staple people in our community that has done so much," Hirst said of the superintendent of the Patchogue-Medford School District. "Born & bred here, he's been involved with the school district for his entire career and done so much for the youth of our community. He has made such an impression on me and it was an easy choice."

Locantore said he was very humbled by the award.

"I'm not really sure what 'man of the year' means but if it means that you can give back to the community then I certainly welcome that," Locantore said.

Hirst also discussed Burdo's involvement with PMYCS.

"Rosie [Burdo] has been involved with our organization for years, helping with the fashion show as well as the PTA and other things. She was the front runner for woman of the year. Hopefully she will also join our Board," Hirst said.

Burdo was thrilled but shocked to be selected.

"I don't like being the center of attention," she said. "I'm just trying to give back to my community."
