Barton Fifth-Graders Becoming 'Little Doctors'

Students will learn science from an upcoming blood drive.

Fifth-grade students at Barton Elementary School are becoming "Little Doctors" for a blood drive at the school on Monday.

According to a release from the Patchogue-Medford school district, the school is partnering with New York Blood Center's "Little Doctors" program. The program provides students the opportunity to benefit from the experience of organizing and planning a community blood drive.

The drive will involve 20 students, who will have the ability to see their science curriculum applied in this real-life situation.

Residents are encouraged to make an appointment to donate, which can be done at NYBloodCenter.org or calling 1-800-933-8955. Walk-ins are also welcome. The school is located at 199 Barton Avenue in North Patchogue.
