Master Workshop with Award Winning Journalist and Documentary Filmmaker Anisa Mehdi

The Plaza Media Arts Center will be presenting a master workshop with Anisa Mehdi.

Have you ever wondered:

  • What it is like to be in a DANGER ZONE writing journalism?
  • What it is like to have a camera in your hands that MAKES YOU THE TARGET?
  • How does one perform to get the REAL STORY across to those who need it the most? 

With 25 years in news and documentary filmmaking from Malaysia to Iran to Santa Cruz, CA, Anisa has been on the forefront of reporting on the impact of religion on society and politics.

She has reported for ABC News "Nightline" and her commentary is heard on NPR's "All Things Considered." Ms. Mehdi has appeared on PBS, Fox TV and Ebru TV and she's won Emmy Awards for arts coverage.  

Anisa has immersed herself in other cultures by living abroad, in Spain and Jordan. Her films include the acclaimed National Geographic Special, "Inside Mecca," and the PBS Frontline CINE Award winner, "Muslims."

She has hands-on experience behind-the-scenes and on-camera; she's shot video and recorded audio; she's edited tape and scripts; she's raised over a million dollars for projects; and she's raised a family along the way.

Anisa will bring her expertise in production and interpersonal skills to this master class. She'll share stories and film clips describing her transition from television news to long-form production. She'll take time to hear your concerns and give guidance from a deep well of professional practice. Come prepared to workshop your ideas!
