Medford Student Wins Astoria Federal Savings' Essay Contest

Amber Ringle was among the top seven winners of the Teach Children to Save contest.

A student was among the top seven winners of the seventh annual Teach Children to Save essay contest run by Astoria Federal Savings.

Amber Ringle, age 10 of Medford, won a trip for her and her family to the company's Lake Success headquarters, a $250 American Express Gift Card a certificate and a medal.

The contest, for children ages 5-12, tasked students with writing about what they could get in the future if they started to save money. According to a release, close to 1,000 students entered the contest. Ringle's essay was on opening a café where the less fortunate could eat for free once a week.
