Oregon Students Compete During Fish Thicket Field Trip

Students spend two days at the preserve during this outdoor learning activity.

Students from Oregon Middle School in Medford recently participated in an outdoor educational activity taking place at the nearby Fish Thicket preserve.

The students received access to the preserve over a two day field trip in November, during which they competed in teams to find hidden treasure in the woods. Added into this year's trip was a "capture the flag" element.

Several students and faculty from the school presented the activity and their experiences to the Patchogue-Medford Board of Education at Monday's meeting at South Ocean Middle School in Patchogue.

The preserve, which is located on the south side of Woodside Avenue east of Woodside Nursery in Patchogue, is in stewardship of Patchogue-Medford School District and the Cornell Cooperative Extension.
