I would like to know why our district, Pat/Med, does not have a SEPTA (Special Education Parent Teacher Association)? I have to travel to North Bellemore tonight so can learn more about advocating for services for my child.

Instead of complaining to people who can't answer your question and don't have a shot at solving your problem why don't you call the district and ask them?

wow aren't you the helpful one, I thought maybe someone reading would know. I have been in touch with the district, thanks for your sage advice

Michelle, there are several reasons why there is no SEPTA in Pat-med. First, several years ago when officers were needed to take over the executive board, no parents came forward even though at the time I believe there were over 1000 classified students living in the district. Second, the district made it extremely difficult to maintain communication with parents throughout the district. Flyers were no longer allowed and mailings were "cut from the budget". In other words, reaching out to parents was made nearly impossible. If you or anyone that you know would be interested in resurrecting SEPTA, please contact the office of pupil services. Hopefully they would put you in contact with the former officers, who still live in the district.
