Patchogue-Medford High School Evacuated

Update: Third bomb threat in week evacuates school in the morning.

UPDATE 6/7/10: Another bomb threat, the second one today, is being reported at the High School, according to an update from the Business News Network at 12:46 p.m. Students are again being evacuated. Check back for more information. 

UPDATE 6/7/10:  Patchogue-Medford High School is having it's third bomb threat since the original one last Wednesday said an email from the Business News Network issued at 10:06 AM.  Students are again being evacuated from the school.  

UPDATE 6/4/10:  Patchogue-Medford High School had their second bomb threat in 48 hours due to a message written on a wall said an email from the Business News Network.  The email stated the message was written within two hours prior to the evacuation, which happened around 9:45 AM.  Students and staff were evacuated and still outside at 10:25 AM, but were returned to school before 10:35 AM.  The High School appears to have returned to normal operations.  Students outside of the high school commented that it happened during their second period of class.  Requests for comment from administration have not yet been returned.

UPDATE 6/3/10:  Fred McKenna, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, wrote in an e-mail that a bomb scare was the reason for the evacuation.  Since it took place at the end of the school day, class schedules weren't disrupted, and buses departed as scheduled.

Police were called late this afternoon to investigate a threatening message written on a desk at Patchogue-Medford High School.

Police searched the school immedately after students were dismissed at the normal time of 1:50 p.m. Forty five minutes later, the search had been completed and normal operations had resumed.

The matter is still under investigation.

Students, parents, and staff members with information about the incident are being asked to contact Principal Randy Rusielewicz at 687-6500 or the TELL Hotline at 687-TELL (687-8355).

Parents of students were told of the investigation via an e-mail.
