Patchogue Patch Seeking Whiz Kid Nominations

New feature will honor the top students in the community.

Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree.

Each week, Patchogue Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. This is open for every grade level at every school in the community.

We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.  Submit your nomination in our comment box below or e-mail the information to Patchogue Patch editor Michael Sorrentino at Michael@Patch.com. Be sure to include all of the following information

●      Nominator's Name

●      Nominator's E-Mail

●      Whiz Kid's Age

●      Whiz Kid's School

●      Whiz Kid's Accomplishment

We all need to support our children in all of their efforts! They are the future of our Nation. Samsung is giving away a million bucks in a nationwide contest to promote math, science, technology and engineering. Did you know that our students at Buffalo Avenue are the ONLY school in NY State that is in this contest. Pat Med High School, the ONLY New York State School is #2 right on the survey. Please go to https://pages.samsung.com/us/sft/video/index.jsp#top and vote for our children.

I would like to nomintae my granddaughter: I am Joanne Mazza, email-jmazz45@aol.com. Kayla Thomson is 16 and isin her 3rd year at PMHS . She is an excellent student. Has been in AP classes since junior high at South ocean middle school. She just received her score on the SAT and received 1750 out of possible 1800. She excel's in the sciences and art. She want's to go to Geneseo to become a doctor. This has been her dream since she was about 9 years old. She is active in school extra curricular activities. She played Soccer for many years but stopped this year due to financial need. She also works for a pizzaria in Sayville. She is a member of Key club and has been involved in others clubs over the years; and has been on either Dean's list or Principles list for many years. Kayla is a self-determined young lady who always tries her best to be the best that she can be. Despite her family's set back ( divorce ) and her biological father never being in her life, she excels. Kayla is the middle child of 3 girls. She lives with her mom and younger sister in Patchogue. Her older sister, Nina, is in Los Angeles, CA, pursuing a career in Music and the arts. Kayla is one of the most responsible, serious minded and level headed young girls I know. She is also beautiful. Thank you for th is opportunity. I think what you are doing is wonderful. We need to celebrate our youth and their accomplishments.
