South Ocean Student Wins Essay Contest

Alexandra Recksten won the $500 grand prize for writing about her inspiration for creativity.

South Ocean Middle School's Alexandra Recksten recently won the Long Island Presidents' Council Essay Contest.

Recksten had to write an essay on the topic "I Feel Creative When...", in which she wrote about feeling most creative when reading in school, said a release from the contest.

Recksten receives a $500 grand prize for the winning essay.

The contest was open to Long Island students in grades kindergarten through 12. The 12 finalists from thousands of written submissions had to submit a taped recording of the entrant reading from the essay. The winner was picked from a criteria involving content, clarity, sincerity and spoken delivery abilities.

Recording of these entries were done at the WBAB radio station. Her recorded message will also get to air on the following radio stations: , WBAB FM, WBLI FM, WBZO FM, WCBS AM, WHFM FM, WHLI AM,WKJY FM, WLNG FM, WIGX FM and WTHE AM.
