Raiders Baseball Wins Summer Varsity Playoffs

Raiders baseball caps off 2010 with playoff victory.

The Patchogue-Medford varsity baseball team defeated Deer Park, 9-8, in the summer varsity playoffs Thursday night at the PAL Sports Complex. While the team had a mixed season (8-7-1 with three forfeits from inclement weather), Coach Tony Frascogna said that his team stepped up for the playoffs.

"The future seniors figured that this could be the last time, so we all stepped up and won it," said rising senior and first baseman Tom Rubinstein.

Frascogna credited good pitching, mentioning that in the first round of the playoffs against Sachem East that rising junior Dan Donofrio pitched a shutout, resulting in a 8-0 win against the Arrows.

The second game of the playoffs against Connetquot was more challenging, but Raiders pulled ahead for a 4-2 win.

"Connetquot is a really good team, but my team did a great job," said Frascogna.

The game caps off varsity baseball for 2010, which will hold tryouts in the first week of March 2011, and scrimmage games at the end of March leading into the spring season.
