Raiders Football Leads 7-6 At Postponed Sachem East Game

With East one extra point shy of a temporary tie, officials called Thursday night's game before conversion on account of lightning.

Threatening weather temporarily suspended play at the Patchogue-Medford Raiders varsity football game at Sachem East. The Raiders lead 7-6 for the moment, its lead dented by East sophomore running back Steven Casali's score on a first-and-five play, carrying for 18 yards with 4:48 remaining in the first.

Soon after the touchdown, lightning lit up the sky and officials delayed the game until tomorrow afternoon before East could attempt an extra point.

Raiders scored in two plays after advancing the kickoff to its 40, carrying to East's 41 on a third-and-three to set up Raiders senior tight end Sal Palumbo for a scamper through a right-side seam to draw first blood, aided by kicker Lucas Castillo's PAT at 9:55 to go.

East junior receiver Ryan Mellon returned the punt to Pat-Med's 47, where the drive stalled before going three-and-out, but the Arrows repossessed on a third-down play at Pat-Med's 29 thanks to Ryan Welwood's interception. Casali completed the first down, and an offsides call against Pat-Med gave East the first-and-five advantage it needed on the scoring play.

The game will resume tomorrow at Sachem East High School at 3:30 p.m.
