Ladies Have a Rough Valentine’s Day

The SJC women’s basketball team was defeated 66-52 by Old Westbury on Valentine's Day. The loss officially knocked the team out of contention for the Skyline Conference Tournament, a prize it had been battling to achieve for quite some time.

After a strong February, when the team put together a three game winning streak, the ladies ended their season with a rough patch, finishing 0-4.

SJC Women’s Lacrosse Hires Its First Coach

The newly-founded women’s lacrosse program officially hired its first head coach this past week, as  will lead the staff.

During Vlahakis’ extensive coaching career, he has achieved several accolades, including three Long Island Coach of the Year and seven consecutive Suffolk County “C” Coach of the Year awards in lacrosse.

Briarcliffe Bowling In the Drivers Lane

Both the men’s and women’s bowling teams had impressive outings last weekend during two tournaments.

During its own tournament, the Briarcliffe Invitational, the women’s team annihilated its competition, winning by 1,800 pins. Despite the women’s impressive outing, the men’s squad placed second after losing in the last frame of the last game by 10 pins.

The following day, however, both the men's and women's teams won their respective tournaments at the Westchester Classic. The women once again cruised to victory, as the men led by Jack Castellano—who is the No. 2 men’s bowler in the country—held a late rally to defeat the strong William Patterson University in the final two games to take the title.

Briarcliffe holds the honor of having six bowlers in the top 13 across the entire nation. Both squads will hit the lanes once again in the Sectional Qualifiers, held in Allentown, PA, March 12-13.
