9 Things I Want to Do This Summer - What's On Your List? (Sponsored)

Summer treats, making memories with the kids, and reading a great book made the list. Sponsored by "Grown Ups 2."

Everyone makes a summer wish list that includes family excursions and well-deserved downtime. Here are nine things I want to do this summer. What’s on your list?

1. Eat loads and loads of ice cream. Black raspberry, in a sugar cone, with chocolate sprinkles.

2. Remember that weekends are for playing, not for doing laundry. My summer resolution to myself: I will do laundry in the evenings, not on the weekends.

3. Build a sandcastle. I made this promise to my daughter last summer, and she’s been asking about it all winter: “When can we build a sandcastle?” So this year I’m investing in all the right buckets and tools. I might even watch an instructional video so we can make it extra awesome.

4. Play too many rounds of mini-golf. Is there such a thing as playing too much mini-golf?

5. Set my alarm to “gin & tonic o’clock.” I give myself permission to drop everything at “gin & tonic o’clock” (a.k.a. 3 p.m. on Saturdays) and have a cocktail outside, while watching my children play on the swing set.

6. Teach my children how to pump. On the swings, that is. All the better for being able to enjoy my cocktail.

7. Read a great book. I’m inspired by this smart booklist from Andrew Ross Sorkin, but I’ll probably end up with “Fifty Shades of Grey” instead. Feel free to suggest alternatives - I need all the help I can get.

8. Take the family on a long hike. I’ll even pack a backpack of snacks and Band-Aids. Really, there’s nothing like the serene calm of the forest, and blazing your own path through it.

9. Relax a few rules for my kids. I will let them roam on the beach a few steps outside my comfort zone. I will let them eat a donut for breakfast and have an ice cream cone for dessert on the same day. I will laugh at the disapproving looks of judgmental passersby. And we will all be a little more free.
