Long-time Brookhaven Animal Shelter Resident Finds a Home

Floral Park couple adopts Mary, a canine who has called the Town shelter home the past three years.

Mary is home. Finally.

After , and earning the title of longest resident, the four-year-old canine is now living with a Floral Park couple.

Patch called the shelter Wednesday to get the heart-warming details of the adoption, and will provide how it all came about as soon as possible.

For now though, you can see some great pictures of Mary on her ride home, the loving couple who adopted her and all the well-wishers' comments as Mary, whose last name is now D'Dogue, has her own Facebook page.

The adoption came after a very heart-felt plea by animal shelter leaders, a special VIP event where Mary was the special guest of the Blue Point Brewing Company and Woof Stock, a shelter event held this past weekend. and it was clear Mary had plenty of people rooting for her to be adopted.

There are still about 199 dogs and cats needing homes. If you're interested in giving a home to a loving animal the adoption shelter is open seven days a week from 9:30 to 4 p.m. and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
