Patchogue Guide to Summer Camps for Kids
With the warm weather on the way, now is the time to select a great summer program before they all fill up.
With a little less than four months left in the school year, local parents have already started planning for their kids’ summer vacation.
And that means one thing: summer camp.
To help you decide, Patchogue Patch has compiled this summer camp guide featuring a host of programs in town – and others from nearby towns – to make the job of picking the one that’s right for your kids a much easier experience.

• Name: Brookhaven ROE YMCA/Patchogue YMCA
Type of camp: outdoors/sports/craft

Cost: Kiddie Camp starts at $399 for one week, Youth Camp & Pre-Teen Camp $929 for three weeks, Too Cool For Camp $949 per three-week session. Smaller camp fees for 1-week or 2-weeks.
Where: Two locations: Brookhaven ROE YMCA, 155 Buckley Road, Holtville, NY; Patchogue YMCA, 255 W. Main St., Patchogue.
When: Session I June 24 - July 12, Session II July 15 - Aug. 2, Session III Aug. 5 - Aug 23. Session IV Aug 26 - Aug. 30.
Deadline for registration: Early bird discount deadline of April 1; as space permits.
Details: The Patchogue/ROE YMCA offers a variety of summer camp experiences by age: Kiddie Camp (ages 3-5), Youth Camp (grades K - 4), Pre-Teen Adventures (5th grade), Too Cool for Camp (grades 6-8) and Counselor in Training. Camp activities focus on swimming lessons, indoor and outdoor sports, and themed days. Pre-Teens and Too Cool for Camp will take trips outside the YMCA to visit local beaches and amusement parks.

Details: (previous description on Patchogue Patch) The village runs six, six-week programs, a general day camp program called "Fun-In-The-Sun," that included an outdoor basketball clinic, a tennis program, a soccer program, cheerleading camp, and a general sports program in 2012. Details and starting dates for 2013 summer will be announced shortly. Parents possibly interested in enrolling their children should contact the Department of Parks & Recreation in early April.

Details: The Patchogue-Medford School District will offer summer programs, usually at Saxton Middle School and Canaan Elementary School. Details for Summer 2013 have not been announced yet.

Type of camp: Gymnastics/sports/arts and crafts

Details: Gym-Nest in Medford offers summer day programs for gymnasts ages 4-12 to develop their skills under trained instructors. Details for the 2013 summer season will be announced in April.
Ages 4-12, 2-4 days a week for seven one-week sessions

Type of camp: Horseback riding
Cost: $795 per two weeks - $2,625 for eight weeks. Sibling Discount.
Where: Country Farms, 200 Bellport Ave., Medford.
When: July - August
Deadline for registration: First-come, first-serve.
Details: Country farms believe a child who is horseback riding is kept off the streets. They offer two-, four-, six-, and eight-week sessions for children to learn horseback and horsemanship. Children must have taken a minimum of 5 ½ hours of private lessons at Country Farms to sign up for camp.

Details: Oakwood Farm offers a summer horseback riding programs for children to learn horsemanship and horseback riding skills. Full details for the 2013 summer program will be announced by early April.
