Why I Think Patch Must Survive and Flourish

The news was not pretty for AOL Patch this week. The good news is that it is a warning not an obituary. Patch news is the quickest and the only unfiltered news with comments in this community. Believe me having news dictated by low level businessmen, who write restaurant reviews based on the size of their adds or give out Best of the Best awards only to companies that advertise with them will be the  only alternative. They pretend to do contests selecting winners not on merit but on advertising agendas. The power of local voices is not to be silienced therefore giving greedy CEO's the power of what news and points of views the local community gets. One CEO who I worked for actually cut writers pay to "cut costs" so he could hit performance quota's for a bonus for himself. He said, "Writers are all ego," maybe that's true, but he said it laughing as he was cutting writers fee's. Patch is the voice of the people, by the people for the people. This is the reason it must thrive, not just survive. I don't care about the man who created it, I care about what he created. He created a  vehicle for a blog like this. Otherwise the east end will be dictated to by advertisers through papers willing to print  and post on the internet LYING restaurant reviews, lying articles about real estate, and business. Abe Lincoln said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time." Put Patch on your cell phones, computers and visit the site. Better yet comment, blog, let your voice be heard.
