Food Given to Families-In-Need at Medford Radio Station

Local churches and volunteers gather to help those in need this holiday season.

More than 400 families in need received food in the first half-hour of the Hope for Hungry event on Saturday held at WLIX radio station in Medford.

Volunteers from many churches and across Long Island worked to distribute food at the event.

Pastor Richard Anderson, the event’s founder and senior pastor at Holding Out Hope Church in Middle Island, said that the event was planned recently and will happen again closer to Christmas.

"The idea started last month and we are planning another event for those in need on Christmas as well," Anderson said.

Vince Trapani, a volunteer, was surprised at the number of families that came quickly to the event.

Two truckloads of food were brought to the Medford radio station. Upper Room Christian Center in Dix Hills was also hosting the other half of this event at their church, also feeding nearly 400 families.

Between both locations, an estimated 1,250 families were fed at the event.

The next Hope for Hungry event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the radio station.
