Patchogue German-Americans Celebrate National Day

South Ocean Avenue-based organization receives proclamation from Brookhaven Town Hall.

German-American leaders commemmorated National German-American Day on October 6, after receiving a proclamation from the Town of Brookhaven.

Steuben Society of America's former chairman Randy Ratje was on hand at Town Hall in Farmingville to receive the proclamation along with Frank Krotschinsky, current chairman of the Henry E. Steinway Unit #66 of Patchogue. The Steuben Society of America is headquartered on Ocean Avenue in Patchogue.

The holiday recognizes the date in 1683 when 13 German families founded Germantown, Penn., the first German settlement of the original 13 colonies.
