Patchogue Group Mulls Bench Dedication For Local Volunteer

After two memorial bench installations, beautification committee seeks to install a third.

The Greater Patchogue Foundation Beautification Committee is considering dedicating its next public bench after Connie Fucillo, a long-time volunteer who lent her services to the Patchogue Theater for years.

The committee, which has already installed dedicated benches for Eloise Staudinger and Jeffrey Weeks, recently issued a proposal to the community to get the process in motion for Fucillo's bench.

"With the support of the Fuccillo family, we seek to dedicate a bench for Connie Fuccillo to be placed in front of the Patchogue Theater where she volunteered," writes Karen Ferb, a volunteer representative of the Beautification Committee in her draft proposal. "The inscription could read as follows but the choice is up to her family:

"In memory of Concetta “Connie” Fuccillo (1927-2010) on behalf of a grateful community. Founder and past president of the Patchogue Lioness Lions Club, member of the Women’s Club of Patchogue supporter of the Patchogue Theatre, the Hope Foundation and St. Francis de Sales Church. Loving wife, mother of four, and grandmother of eleven. Remembered for her dedication to family, church, community, music, and for her smile."

Ferb and another volunteer with the Beautification Committee, Paula Murphy, would be responsible for collecting donations, reviewing the inscription, purchasing the bench for the Department of Public Works, and overseeing the bench's installation and dedication.

The previously dedicated benches were made possible through private and public donations in cooperation with the DPW and Patchogue Village. The village makes the ultimate decision about where to place the bench.

A dedicated bench, installed, with an inscription, costs around $1,900. Anyone interested in donating for the bench can send checks to:
Karen Ferb; 271 West Avenue; Patchogue, NY 11772. Or, call Tom Ferb at (917) 225-7411 to arrange to drop off your check personally. Checks should be made payable to: The Greater Patchogue Foundation with a notation “in Memory of Connie Fuccillo."
