Report: Patchogue Church Offering Free Bike Training

Congregational Church of Patchogue to receive grant to start the program reports Newsday.

The will be starting a bicycle repair training program after receiving a grant reports Newsday.

The church has , no questions asked, to people in the community who need one.

“We’re not only giving away bikes but also taking people in batches of six, and paying them to be trained and they’ll know how to repair bikes,” Rev. Dwight Wolter, the church's pastor, told Newsday.

The church's Workers Without Wheels project received a $6,580 grant to launch the training program from Self-Development of People Task Force of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), which will be received at this Sunday's 10 a.m. service.

Wolter says that the program is planned to launch this spring. Participants will be paid at least $12 an hour for training, consisting of assembling one new bicycle and repairing one used bicycle.
