Runners Trot around Patchogue Lake

Kiwanis Club of Patchogue hosts a 5K run, Bayport man wins.

The sixth annual Twilight Trot 5k kicked off  at Brick House Brewery on Sunday, and Eric Huan from Bayport picked up the win with a time of 17:19.90.

Audra Zakar of Miller Place came in as first place female runner with a time of 22:30.72.

The race had been slightly delayed due to heavy storms that pushed through the area on Sunday just prior to the start. However, the rain also brought cooler conditions for the athletes.

"If I was coming to race it's the best conditions for a runner," said race director Nick Harding.

More than 100 runners, ranging in age from 12 to 65 years old, participated in the Patchogue Kiwanis Club-sponsored run, traveling from as far away as Queens and the East End to participate. Funds generated by the event will be used for community youth projects.

The athletes and their supporters were treated to food, beverages, and musical entertainment courtesy of the Brick House Brewery following the race.

"Every dollar that comes in goes back out to the community. No one takes salaries or stipends. ... It's all for helping out the kids," Harding said.
