This event is for interested people, caregivers, government organizations, but it does recognize that congregations and fellowships can play a beneficial role in recognizing and addressing memory loss issues. Attendees will listen, learn and speak with representatives from assisted living facilities, hospitals and the North Hempstead Aging-In-Place Initiative on topics including music and memory loss; palliative care; hospice, aging in place (staying at home); assisted living; home care; financial concerns; as well as spirituality, building community, and emotional health. Opportunities for supportive discussion with the panelists as well as with people in similar situations will be provided.

Oil Painting with Angela Stratton

n this exciting two-day workshop geared for beginners and intermediates, Angela will teach students how to start and complete a painting using the ‘alla prima’ (direct painting) approach.  In addition to learning how to mix and use oil paints, students will have the opportunity to discuss color, values and edges. Nov. 2 and 3 from 1-4 p.m. at Gallery North.

Three Village Historical Society Walking Tour

St. Ann’s Church in Sayville will hold its annual Christmas Fair on Nov. 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is $5 and event features collectible shopping and auction.

Sayville Family Dentistry is celebrating a year in business with a Toys for Tots collection effort on Nov. 2 starting at 2 p.m. at 207 West Main Street in Sayville.

Shaggy at Sequoya Middle School

The Shaggy concert is being sponsored by JVC Broadcasting and Party 105.3 FM, and is taking place at Sequoya Middle School, 750 Waverly Ave. in Holtsville, on Friday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Sachem Touchdown Club Band Night

Annual Nesconset 5K Run

Race to benefit local causes is taking place at Gazebo Park, 127-22 Smithtown Blvd. in Nesconset on Sunday. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. Admission is $30.

Patchogue

Film: A Touch of Sin

Film focuses on four characters in different provinces, driven into violence. Showtimes are taking place from Nov. 1-6 at Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center, 20 Terry St. in Patchogue.
