The following article was submitted by Harry Loud, public information director for the Wantagh Fire District. Jake Parris will forever have his "Way."
Park Street between South Ocean and Rider Avenues was renamed Jake Parris Way recently in memory of the late Calvin "Jake" Parris. As a former dedicated coach of the Patchogue 40 Thieves Drill Team, Honorary Chief of the Patchogue Fire Department and past New York State Firefighter of the Year, it seems appropriate that this section of Park Street is where the Van Guard Hose Company #1 firehouse is located, of which Parris was a longtime member. Family and friends attended the unveiling of the street sign to honor the man so many knew simply as Popsie. Described as a "one of a kind", with a great sense of humor and "infectious smile", people who knew him well say this is a fitting tribute. "No greater person in this village could deserve a…

Remembering her remarkable spirit, family and friends mourn Elizabeth Kelly.
Since childhood, Patchogue native Elizabeth Kelly had a passion for swimming. The focus, determination and positive attitude she demonstrated during competitions would eventually become the way in which she would face her nearly year-long battle with cancer, according to her mother, Patti Kelly. “It was her swimming mentality that pulled her through during the last year of her life,” Patti said of Elizabeth, who died on Dec. 22, just hours shy of her 20th birthday. “There were times when she was so sick [from the treatments], when she couldn’t see anyone, and she’d say, ‘Mom, I just have to get to the other side.’ She just had that swimming mentality – suck it up and keep going.” It was during her freshman year of college, while training …

Family, friends honor passed 21-year-old for his service and selflessness.
Remembered as someone who was always selflessly working behind the scenes to help others, Medford resident Ralph Jackson died while doing what he loved, according to his mother Donna Jackson. "He didn't do spectacular things, he just helped people," Donna said of her son, who passed away suddenly on Nov. 20, less than two weeks after his 21st birthday. Ralph, a Life Member of Boy Scout Troop 40, had been assisting with renovations at Suffolk's Boy Scout service center in Medford when he collapsed. Staff members began CPR immediately and called 911, but Ralph never regained consciousness, according to his mother. Working with the Boy Scouts was one of Ralph's many loves, Donna said, adding that as a teenager he would ride his bike from …

I remember Mrs. Keegan very well as a child. She was always a tough cookie with a lot of love to share with all. Raising 6 children she had to be strong, but, was also very active in each of their lives. She was a wonderful mother and beautiful person. God Bless the Keegan family. You are all so blessed to have many, many memories to keep you strong. She set the example for you, now you carry on …   more ›
