Patchogue Christmas Parade's 2013 Theme Is 'Dancing With The Claus'

Santa might be turning Main Street into a ballroom for the 51st annual holiday parade.

Santa Claus might jive, salsa or otherwise dance down Patchogue's Village Main Street this holiday, as the theme for this year's 51st annual Christmas parade has been announced as "Dancing With The Claus."

Patchogue Village trustee William Hilton announced the theme at the Oct. 15 Patchogue Village Board of Trustees meeting at Patchogue Village Hall when asked by David Kennedy, executive director of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce.

Hilton added that the Parks and Recreation department will be waiving their traditional requirement that there be only one Santa Claus, allowing anyone making a float this year to include St. Nick.

The parade is taking place on Saturday, Nov. 30 starting at 6 p.m. from the corner of W. Main Street and West Avenue, proceed east on Main Street and end at Rider Avenue, according to an invitation from the Parks and Recreation department. This year's categories for float contests are Mayors Cup--Best Overall Unit, Commissioner's Trophy--Most Original Unit, Chamber President's Trophy--Most Holiday Spirit, Trophy--Best Fire Department and Best Car/Truck Club. Applications for those that want to be in the parade are due no later than Nov. 8. Those interested in marching should contact the department at 631-475-4302 for an application.

What are your thoughts on the parade theme? What dances do you want to see Santa do on Main Street? Write them in the comments section below this post.
