I think Jamie Oliver is the coolest. He likes good food, has an awesome accent, frequently says nice things about his wife and he is trying to fight obesity right here in the U.S.A. We recently got his book “Jamie Oliver’s Great Britain” by Jamie Oliver. It covers the modern British food culture through a survey of recipes and can be found here. I’ve transposed the recipe for his Beefy Tomato Salad, but first…
Check out this awesome TED Talk he gave on Obesity. http://youtu.be/go_QOzc79Uc
Or skip the video for the Beefy Tomato Salad Recipe. But seriously check out the video.

Ingredients
1 ¾ ripe large or beefsteak tomatoes, mixed colors if you can get them

Sea salt & ground pepper
1 heaped teaspoon dried dill
4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
½ clove garlic
Optional: 1 teaspoon horseradish
More reasons to love Jamie Oliver. His directions start out with “cut the tomatoes into random big chunks” about an inch big. Put them into a bowl with a pinch of salt and pepper. Then add dried dill, olive oil, red wine vingar and sugar. (Also horseradish if your spicy like me)
Toss everything together and leave for 5 minutes to let food magic happen. Eat as a side, or reserve to use in other dishes. A great lunch component!
