Crossing Guard Charged With DWI In Patchogue After Shift

A Blue Point resident who works as a crossing guard assigned to the Bayport-Blue Point School District is facing a DWI charge following an arrest in Patchogue after her shift Wednesday morning.

Joanne Griffiths, 58, was arrested by Suffolk Police in the parking lot of Waldbaum’s shopping center on Sunrise Highway in Patchogue at about 9:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a possible drunk driver, according to police.

Suffolk Police state officers located Griffiths in the store’s parking lot and observed she was under the influence of alcohol. Griffiths works as a crossing guard at the corner of Montauk Highway and Bell Avenue in Blue Point. Crossing guards are employees of Suffolk County Police.

She is due to be arraigned tomorrow, Oct. 24, at First District Court in Central Islip.
