Police Seeking Woman For Stealing Rent Money In Medford

Suspect allegedly rented an apartment that she did not own, police said.

A woman who allegedly stole money given to her as a deposit for an already-occupied Medford apartment is being sought out by Suffolk County Police.

According to a police announcement issued Tuesday, the woman met a victim multiple times in July 2013 for an apartment rental. The victim paid the woman cash as a security deposit along with one month’s rent, and the victim was given a key to the apartment. Police say the victim later discovered the apartment was already occupied, not available for rent and not owned by the suspect. The location of the apartment was not disclosed in the announcement.

Police describe the female suspect as Hispanic, approximately 5 feet, 4 inches tall with a medium to heavy build. Photos of the suspect were provided by police and are in the media gallery. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information on the crime can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls are being kept confidential.
