SJC Named One of Best Colleges for Veterans

St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it was chosen among U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges for Veterans. Scoring high in terms of graduation rate, faculty resources, reputation and other areas of academic quality, SJC had a tie ranking of 15th place in the north out of 234 colleges and universities across the country.

“As a veteran of the U.S. Army, I wanted to find people I could relate to and a place where I would fit in,” said Richard Laureano, criminal justice major and president of SJC’s Armed Forces Club. “The resources that SJC offers helped make my transition into civilian life a lot less challenging. The faculty and staff are very understanding and I have met many other veteran students and have become highly involved on campus.”

The inaugural list was created to help veterans pursue a college education under the Post-9/11 GI Bill, by providing data and information on colleges and universities that offer federal benefits to veterans and active service members. SJC is an active participant in the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, offering veteran students financial support, a monthly housing allowance and an annual stipend for books and school supplies.

“It is an honor to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best colleges for veterans,” said Shannon O’Neill, assistant dean and military adviser on SJC’s Long Island Campus. “By providing additional resources and support, we feel privileged to assist in their transitions from military to civilian life. With their leadership, work ethic and life experiences, our veteran students enhance our college community.”
