Medford Radio Station Holds Toy Drive

WRCN collected over 1,000 toys in 13th annual toy drive.

Medford radio station WRCN recently held their . Listeners were encouraged to bring down a new, unwrapped toy to the station. This year WRCN gathered over 1,000 toys – ranging from stuffed animals to educational gifts to bicycles.

"It's absolutely incredible. You get the people who come with a couple of things and that's terrific. Whatever anyone can bring is great. If everyone just brings a little bit – it adds up quickly," said Meagan Moir, an employee at WRCN.

According to Moir, the toys go to Brookhaven Interface and to the Riverhead Family Service League. These charity services then divide it up depending on how many families they have.

Maria Polak has been supervising the Brookhaven Interface collection at the North Pole's secret location for the past 15 Christmases. Polak said that the first year the organization began it helped 1700 kids and have grown steadily since.

"Last year at this time I had three or four times the amount that you see. We now have hundreds and hundreds of families on our lists. We start collecting right after Thanksgiving and continue right before Christmas," Polak said.

Many toys are also gathered from school drives; the clubs and organizations provided great assistance this season. Local businesses and fire departments also help by hosting drives or by making monetary donations.
